I don’t know how many times we need to go through this here.
The t3i, in case you hadn’t noticed, is a dslr – fully controllable camera, it’s not a gimmick. It’s not loaded with “effects”. These cameras are designed for serious photographers not snappers. They are designed to be under the photographer’s full control for lighting, exposure, shutter speed, ISO and other things.
If it’s effects junk you want buy a cheap point and shoot. If it’s serious photography you want and you’re willing to take the time to learn how to use such a camera the t3i will be excellent.

i strongly agree with jim…
A dslr is not a camera that shoots better picture but a camera that allows you to control most of the things like shutter speed aperture, etc manually…in case you dont know how to use these correctly you are going to be in a real fix.
Effects can be easily added using photoshop or any free software.. Dont base your camera decision on that.. If you are not familier with these contros . I would recomend a high end compact point and shoot which would cost almost same as a low end dslr…
But if you want to learn photography by experimenting no prob in buying a dslr..you may not get the results in the begning but you will get better with practice..
