Most all digital (and film) SLR cameras that only go down to a 30 sec. speed also have a “bulb” mode. That is what I use on my Pentax digital SLR and my Miranda 35 SLR when shooting such things as fireworks. I also use a wired remote and a tripod for such work. When doing astro work, such as star streaks, I use it there too. You can then time your exposure for most any amount you want.

  1. Your manual has all those answers, you really should read it some day.

If you lost it, download a new one from Canon.

  2. Yes. U need to take the camera out of the automatic exposure modes (Av or Tv) and put it into M mode for manual exposure.

There, U can set “bulb” mode, where the shutter remains open for as long as you hold the shutter release down.

Generally, the best bet is to use a remote control to do this. The kind of remote U get depends on your camera model. A remote will typically be under $ 15 for a generic type; do a search on amazon.com for example under “canon remote” to find the right model.
